FOURTH ON THE FARM...
Mom can remember making ice cream with Mawmaws as a little girl.  It was a special treat.  Mawmaws remembers making the same sweet stuff with her parents-different recipe of course.  Her daddy put fresh fruit in it-YUM!  Today we were making vanilla to top our berry cobbler and it was well worth the added effort.  I was great in the kitchen; cracking eggs, measuring each ingredient and flipping on and off the switches.  The tricky part came when we took it outside to churn.  Our ice chips were more like blocks and after adding all the ice and salt we realized the machine (still churning from mom's childhood) just couldn't break them up.  Take 2 involved an icepick and some fancy, frozen finger work rearranging each piece until it fit just so.  Some half hour later it was churning and we were ready to feast!  The farm is a place where good food is never in shortage.  Homemade breads and meats that have been smoking for hours upon hours.  I'm usually a bit selective choosing to eat the veggies and fruit rather than meat and bread but mom and dad fill their bellies full.  Mom always says that ice cream melts and it can fill in all the spaces that are left between the healthy foods so they never need to worry about missing out on dessert.  It was HOT outside so homemade ice cream was even that much more appreciated, devoured and enjoyed.
